Inter Lagos Fined ₦1 Million for Fan Misconduct: LSFA Upholds Discipline in Football

The 2024/2025 Lagos State President Federation Cup concluded with a thrilling final that saw Inter Lagos crowned champions after a hard-fought victory over Ikorodu City. However, the celebrations were marred by an unfortunate incident involving some fans, prompting the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) to take decisive action to uphold the integrity of the sport.

Following the match at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, a section of Inter Lagos supporters stormed the VIP section, causing disruptions and leaving dignitaries, stakeholders, and government officials disappointed. In response, the LSFA Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Vice-Chairman Mr. Adedotun Coker, convened on March 3, 2025, to address the situation.

After careful deliberation, the committee imposed a ₦1 million fine on Inter Lagos and mandated the club to issue a public apology to the Lagos State football community through media channels. These measures were taken to reinforce the importance of discipline and respect in football, ensuring that such incidents do not overshadow the achievements of teams or tarnish the reputation of the competition.

The LSFA remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all stakeholders, including players, officials, and fans. While football is a passionate sport, it is crucial that celebrations remain within the bounds of acceptable behavior, especially when it comes to respecting dignitaries and officials.

Inter Lagos’ triumph in the Federation Cup is a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the season. However, the actions of a few fans have unfortunately cast a shadow over their success. The LSFA’s decision to impose a fine and require a public apology serves as a reminder to all clubs and supporters that maintaining discipline is paramount.

This incident also highlights the need for clubs to work closely with their fan bases to promote responsible behavior and ensure that celebrations do not escalate into disruptions. The LSFA will continue to monitor crowd behavior closely and will not hesitate to impose stricter sanctions, such as stadium bans or point deductions, if similar incidents occur in the future.

The LSFA’s actions are not just about addressing this specific incident but about setting a precedent for the future. By holding clubs accountable for the conduct of their supporters, the association aims to foster a culture of respect and responsibility that will benefit the entire football community in Lagos.

As we move forward, the LSFA remains committed to organizing competitions that celebrate the spirit of the game while upholding the highest standards of integrity and discipline. We urge all clubs and fans to join us in this mission, ensuring that football in Lagos continues to thrive in a positive and respectful environment.
