Lagos FA Cup: Rookie Teams Shine in Thrilling Opening Round Matches, Next Fixtures Announced

 The highly anticipated Lagos State Challenge Cup, widely known as the Lagos FA Cup, kicked off its 2024/2025 season with an exciting first round of matches across various venues on January 22, 2025. This year’s edition, featuring 80 men’s teams and four women’s teams, opened with impressive displays from the 28 rookie teams in action.



At the Alade Stadium in Ipaja, L. City FC secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Orin FC, while Hephzibar FC dominated Fackson NextPro FC with a convincing 3-0 victory. In a closely contested match, Diadem Stallion FC edged past Arubinjaga FC with a 2-1 scoreline. Meanwhile, Greater Height FC triumphed in a goal-filled encounter, defeating Unification FC 5-3.

Over at the Legacy Pitch, Vido 99 FC delivered a statement performance, thrashing Ibeju Lekki United FC 7-0. China Sun Stars FC secured a clean 3-0 victory against FC Gemstones International, while Prince Kazeem Eletu FC narrowly defeated Innovator 24 FC in a thrilling 3-2 match.

The Maracana Stadium in Ajegunle also saw some intense battles. Millennium FC edged out Osykay FC with a 3-2 win, and Seamoriow FC overcame Switch FC with a similar 3-2 scoreline. However, it was a dominant performance by Ikorodu City FC, who cruised to a 3-0 victory over Ona-Ara FC.

In another standout match at the Maracana Stadium, Burns Boy FC defeated Dijon FC with a 2-0 scoreline, sealing their place in the next round.

The Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA), Adedotun Coker, commended all participating teams for their dedication and urged them to maintain discipline as the tournament progresses.

As the competition heats up, the next round of matches has been scheduled for Monday, January 27, 2025, at two venues:

  Today - the 13th of February, 2026 - is a big day for the Lagos State Football Association : they've just signed the papers on a deal with Cloud Sports Limited that's set to take their broadcast rights to the next level. According to a statement released from the LSFA and put their weight behind by Chairman Hajji Gafar Liameed, this three year partnership - which is reportedly worth a tidy ₦100 million - is a bold move to give the Lagos FA Cup a much needed boost.
